They first planned to care for very young, mainly bottle-feeding kittens, who rarely survived if found without a mother cat. They soon found that older kittens would do better in foster care, and then included mother cats, both tame and , and eventually a full program. Visit .We are focused on keeping our residents healthy and happy, and since we are functioning beyond capacity we have created a more robust program to help the animals in need that do not have the good fortune to find a place at the sanctuary. We are able to help individuals in the community care for small colonies of cats that are living on the fringes of society. By sharing our resources we are now able to help feed, spay/neuter, vaccinate and provide necessary care for dozens of cats outside of the sanctuary in the Vancouver/Portland area. Most of the animals we have are dogs. But we also have rabbits, hamsters, budgies, and sometimes a guinea pig or even chickens! If you are looking for a smaller pet, contact us to see what we have available. (If you want to adopt a cat, contact Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association, other local municipal shelters or the BCSPCA.)Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) is a no-kill, non-profit, registered charity dedicated to the rescue of cats in the Lower Mainland. We also coordinate rescue work with other groups in BC.All CROSS OUR PAWS adoptions begin with an application, followed by a home visit IF we feel the application is a good match for the animal. All CROSS OUR PAWS rescues are cared for in foster homes and in order not to be too disruptive to our volunteers, we pre-approve all applicants prior to a meet and greet. We recommend several meet & greets prior to adoption to ensure a "perfect" match. CROSS OUR PAWS will limit adoptions of our "special needs" animals to the Vancouver Lower Mainland areas so we can assist with any issues that may arise. It is also a policy if you have a yard, it MUST be FULLY secure at least in the rear. We do adopt to apartment/condo dwellers if strata permits and the dog is suitable to be in a multi-family complex living arrangement. The Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) is a no kill, non-profit cat rescue organization in , , Canada, providing services to and nearby communities.
