Thai Dinner Tempe | The Siamese Cat Thai Restaurant - A La Carte
We have been to every Thai restaurant in town. All the great reviews and we still come home to Siamese Cat. The service is great. It's a quiet little place and the food is wonderful. Mu Satay is the best in town, puts melees to shame. is an experience not to miss. Me Krob makes Pink Pepper look like McDonalds. We go here at least 2xs a month.
The Siamese Cat has been a reliable Thai restaurant in the Valley for more than 20 years. The strip mall housing Siamese Cat used to be surrounded by businesses but since the 101 has roared through, many places have closed shop. All that remains is a state agency office, one other restaurant and a bar that has probably changed hands again since this writing. Brave the confusing entrances to the complex, though, and you will be rewarded with Thai food that will make the circling around worthwhile. For the record, the best way to enter is to get off at the Southern Avenue exit from the 101 South, and take the frontage road almost to Baseline Road. You'll probably see the entrance right just as you go pass it, but there's a second entrance a short distance later.
The business cards say Siamese Cat was the first Thai restaurant in Arizona and since it's been around for nearly three decades, they've got to be doing something right. The amount of food was a great deal and you'll probably leave with a nice after lunch snack. Siamese Cat Thai restaurant. Excellent Thai food – This is not a super fancy place, but considering the reasonable cost, friendly and efficient service, great food and low key ambiance I have to give this place 5 stars. The lady serving us told me that this restauarnt had been around for 25 years - so it seems to have done well in a very competitive market. Strange that this was my first time despite having lived in Tempe for nearly 20 years.
What was really nice was that they had several good choices for vegetarians. One of us had the Yellow curry in coconut milk with tofu, cabbage, water chestnuts, potato, carrots and onions vegetables in a light yellow curry sauce - boy was that very tasty.
The price was very reasonable ($21 +tip) for a shared starter and 2 x entrees. We chatted to the lady and she was kind enough to give us a discount for our next visit..
The restaurant was fairly busy on a Friday night with a typical cosmopolitan Tempe crowd, but we were able to get a seat right away. The folks at the next table were trying the various deserts, but unfortunately I'm trying to lose weight - maybe next time....The Sangkhaya Coconut custard - a Thai custard made with coconut cream) looks good. We will definately add this to our list of great local restaurants.Bad Experience – My husband and I wanted to try a new Thai restaurant and found the Siamese Cat. We ordered red curry and a red noodle dish. We did not even eat the food, we left andwent to Yupai on Elliot and McClintock which is much better. Just beware, the reviews were mostly positive so we were open to it. But it was not good and I would not go back. Can't find your khakis? No problem! Throw on a pair of your most comfortable jeans and you'll blend right in at Siamese Cat Thai Restaurant. If you're strapped for time, take out food from this restaurant.
