Oh no the plastic cat house has claimed another victim
Many of pet house designs can be created at home recycling various materials, from salvaged wood to fabrics, cardboard, leather and plastic. Unusual shapes and exciting forms turn these outdoor and indoor dog house designs into home decorations. Bright colors and cute details make cat houses look so charming.
Thick straw bedding allows the cats to “nest” and curl up into heat-conserving positions with the bedding providing a wind-break and insulator. In some cases, tacking strips of cloth over the shelter openings can provide additional protection from drafts, but it may make cats less likely to enter. In very harsh conditions, caretakers may wish to provide weatherproof dog-house heating pads. These are constructed of sealed, heavy plastic with damage-resistant cords. (Only use these if you can safely run power to the unit using a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). The GFCI will disconnect the power in the event of a short circuit or damage to the cord.) When plugging a heater cord into an extension cord, make sure the connection does not lay on the ground where it might be prone to water. Special waterproof extension cords are available at hardware stores.
DIY: cat house. Styrofoam cooler, duct tape, hay, plastic storage bin, pillow/bed. Pre cut a hole in cooler and bin, lay some hay in the bottom, place the cooler in, secure the holes together with duct tape, then stuff the sides. I tape all the perimeter just to secure the hay. Then put the bed on top and the lid to the bin. Flip upside down and the outside cat has shelter. I make a kitty door with an old towel and Velcro just to help keep the draft outThe Petmate 25702 Kitty Kat Condo is a light gray, igloo shaped outdoor house. The house is made of a heavy plastic, with structural foam insulation. The integrated hood over the doorway diverts rain water away from the entrance. The floor is carpeted. If used as an outdoor shetlter in very cold weather, adding some straw inside will help cats stay warmer. If you have a cat that likes to stay outdoors or you want to provide shelter for a feral cat, you can build your own cat house with a few inexpensive materials. Although this project can be done with a single plastic storage tote, placing a smaller tote inside a large tote gives you space to add insulating material to keep the inside of the house warm. You can also hang material in overlapping slats over each opening. If the cat house is made of wood you can put plastic cat doors….I did that on a house inside a cold barnI wanted to make another feral cat shelter from a plastic storage bin that would fit in the little alcove underneath my house. Here's the link to the Thermal Pet Mat -
Forgot to mention that I also put Duct Tape around the entrance and exit holes that I cut so that they're not rough on the cat when it goes in and out.

Busting the myths and misinformation about feral cats.
Just because a cat is feral does not mean they can't be fabulous.
Befriend a feral. Ferals can be fabulous!Use a plastic storage bin for a dog house. A nice little doghouse that will hold up in the rain can cost 100 dollars. But you can make your own for a fraction of the price using a plastic storage bin. Cut a small hole in the bin, flip it over on its lid and stick a dog bed inside it. Your dog will love watching the rain from inside his snug little house, and you’ll save quite a bit of money! Don’t be surprised if your cat likes it so much you’ll have to make one for her too.
