The Large Cat and Kitten Enclosures come with three roomy perches and a full-size entry door so that you can enjoy the fun too! The Small Cat and Kitten Enclosures include one perch and a full size access door. In the Fall of 2002 I built a fairly large cat enclosure in a portion of my backyard thatI rarely used. At the time Tiger was 12 years old and Linda was 8 - I didn't have any othercats at that time. The enclosure is located under two beautiful elm trees and isapproximately 15 feet wide, 24 feet long and a little over 6 feet tall. I built this thing tolast a long time - hopefully. I sunk several treated pine 4x4 posts inconcrete and then ran treated 2x4 stringers off the posts. The sides and theroof are made of very strong 16 gauge galvanized fencing material. Tominimize rotting, the 2x4's near the ground rest on top of bricks which Ipartially buried in the ground. The shelves and ramps are made of big 2x12cedar boards. Cedar boards aren't cheap but even untreated cedar boards lastvery well in the outdoors and they have more texture for the kitties' claws to grip.An outdoor cat enclosure can be as large as you wish; it can encompass your whole backyard or an area as big as the average room. Cat enclosures would generally be built of a mesh grid or even of chicken wire. However, since cats are very agile, the enclosure needs to have a roof, so you have to consider whether the enclosed area will have a wooden roof or be made of the same mesh grid of the enclosure's walls. If you want to use safer material you can use cat netting or even wiring made of polypropylene mesh grid so that you won't have to use chicken wire which may not be aesthetically pleasing. The most important thing is to have it shaped in a large square-like ?ocage fashion so that cat's won't have exits to the outdoors. If you don’t fancy the idea of a large enclosure in the back yard, consider screening in your porch or patio to double as an outdoor cat run, or design the structure so it can also be used as a sunroom or gazebo. That way, you can add furniture and enjoy the outdoors in the company of your kitty.
