The only technical variation to the original instructions for the climbing pole is the addition of a 3 way connector in the middle which complicates things a little. We used carpet (glued on) instead of sisal rope just on that middle bit as it was too hard to keep the sisal rope in place (we tried!). We ended up running the sisal rope from top to side (via middle), with U-bolts at each end, and then a separate length of rope from bottom to middle (again secured with U-bolts). So 4 U-bolts in total. The side pipe is then attached to the existing cat tree using a commercial plastic pipe-end cap screwed through (and we conveniently reused existing elements of the cat tree to secure it in place). Everything else was done as per original instructions.
Do this with a 70m line and you can rap Cat (do NOT rap Cookie) easily with one rope. A 60m also works, but is close on the 3rd pitch and requires about 5-10' of downclimbing on steep 4th class, easy 5th class. (Swing rappellers right to minimize this).
