Foothills Animal Shelter is fortunate to partner with several Petco and PetSmart stores to feature adoptable cats and critters! These locations help us place many more pets in loving homes.
Many of the teenage and adult cats we rescue have been abandoned, neglected, abused, or dumped at the shelter and find themselves in a terrifying, lonely new world. They have withstood hunger, pain, illness and fear to overcome the odds and survive. They are supremely deserving — and appreciative — of a second chance at life. When you adopt, you save a life… and in turn enrich your own.
Different species, breeds, and ages can also be priced differently. Sarabeth Simpson, board member of Fearless Kitty Rescue, in Fountain Hills, Ariz., says her organization has higher adoption fees for kittens than for adult cats. Kittens take more time and money to care for, she explains, and the laws of supply and demand also play a role. Before this, enormous numbers of animals who went into shelters never came out. More than 40 years ago, an average of 20 million dogs and cats were euthanized annually. Humane organizations started a campaign to spay and neuter pets, especially those coming through shelters, and today —still terrible, but a vast improvement. In addition to pet sterilization, an effort also began to find accommodations for homeless animals outside the municipal and private shelter systems, which have limited room and often short deadlines for keeping animals before moving them to death row. The new organizations take potentially adoptable pets out of the shelters and foster them, usually in private homes, until the right owner comes along. They control the fate of an increasing number of animals. In New York City, for example, almost 45 percent of the dogs and cats that come into are passed to one of more than 150 private rescue groups.Because many of these cats come with baggage, Rescue is not always for everyone. We're looking for adopters (Rescuers if you will) who have the patience, understanding and compassion to work through issues that may arise. We're here to help you. If you need a cat within a few days, if you aren't interested in dealing with any issues that may arise, if you must have a specific age and look, Rescue may not be the best solution for you.I'm a single 2-3 year old lady kitty seeking a loyal partner who loves candlelit dinners, sunsets through a window, and playing fun games together (anything with Ping-Pong balls or feathers is good with me). I thought I had a good relationship with the handsome black tomcat who lived next door, but then I ended up alone at the pound with five kittens to take care of. Luckily I was rescued and found a foster family to help me raise my litter. Once all my kittens were adopted, I decided my next lover would be a human; I've been told…Black Cat Rescue has some wonderful cats available for adoption. to see who is looking for a forever home!
